Cities and culture in Lisboa
The classic mistake with a city trip is filling it up. This page does the opposite: few sights per day, a plan you can walk, and meals as part of the itinerary instead of the gap between two museums. Lisbon has a slope that changes the plan: the upper neighbourhoods are climbed calmly and the lower ones are walked. The tram, the viewpoints and a table of cod fit into three days without rushing.
Lisbon is climbed: the viewpoints of Graça and of Santa Catarina give the best part of the day, and coming back down at sunset is the plan. Tram 28 is an easy way to see the city without walking so much, and in Alfama and Mouraria you eat well and cheap. In the heat, the plan turns short and indoor. With two nights you see the essentials and with three you add Belém, which is far away and deserves half a day. Fado and cod are the night plan, and the Santa Justa lift gives the best view without queuing. With a car, parking in the centre is the worst idea of the trip.

8 días en coche por Portugal: Lisboa, Sintra y OportoFrequently asked questions
How many cities is the right number?
Two or three cities, with three or four days in each. Putting four cities into a week is a fast tour: you see the centre of each one and enjoy none. If the plan comes up short, the chat cuts cities before it cuts days.
Does the plan pick the museums?
It picks the ones that make sense on the route and fit with the rest of the day, not a list of the ten most famous. If a museum takes half a day, the plan treats it as the plan of the day, not as an extra between two visits.
